Natural Landscaping Around Your New Home

More homeowners are bucking the trend of having a manicured lawn in favor of more natural and ecologically friendly landscaping methods – naturescaping and xeriscaping.  When building a home, look at the footprint of your new home and talk to your builder about incorporating one or both of these methods.  Both methods focus on using drought-resistant plants that require less water, fertilizer, and care.

Naturescaping involves using native plants that are allowed to go to seed and self-sow.  As they are native, they will not require extensive watering after the first year, and fertilization should be unnecessary.

The xeriscaping method uses drought-resistant plants that are not necessarily native to a region.  This can include succulents, ornamental grasses, and rock gardens.

New homes of any architectural style can be complemented by xeriscaping or naturescaping.  A rock garden and succulents can pair with a modern or contemporary home, while native wildflowers add a touch of color to a craftsman-style house plan.

Homeowners who can’t resist the look of a lush, green lawn can still lessen the impact by choosing a drought-resistant grass or using pockets of naturescaping or xeriscaping in extended flower beds or rock garden features.

House Plan Purchased: SHPCOM-18002-1

"My wife and I were at our wits end trying to find the right house plan for our family. You’d think with all the thousands of house plans out there that we could easily find the right plan for ourselves. We found our way to another broker site and still couldn’t find the right design. Then in desperation we went back to the site and found two plans that were close to what we wanted. The two plans were from StockHomePlans.com, but neither was exactly what we wanted. The other house plans site got us in touch with StockHomePlans.com and soon their helpful staff were able to blend the two designs into the perfect design for us. Our Foundation was just poured yesterday and we can’t wait to watch our dream home come to fruition. Thanks Stock Home Plans.com for your expertise and help!"

House Plan Purchased: SHPCOM-1848-1

"Y'all helped make dreams come true! Our new home is both beautiful and functional for our family of 6. We had it built on a full (daylight) basement so that 2 bedrooms and a bathroom could be added to the wonderful floor plan. It was EXTREMELY affordable, and our builder loved the way the plans were written out-they were perfect! He said he has never before built a house when he didn't have to modify the plan; that's because the floor plan was perfect! I would be glad to lend a positive word for your company in any way I can. And as we are showing our new home, I am always sure to give your company the credit!"
